Living in France

Where to go by train in France this summer for the holidays?

Summer is fast approaching, it’s time to think about your holidays. Where to go this summer? We recommend a few destinations to get away from your daily life: metro, bulot, and dodo. Do you want a change of scenery, sunshine, azure waves, green nature or a thousand-year-old culture? No need to go halfway around the world: a holiday in France can offer you everything you want – and more. And if you are looking for inspiration, follow the guide: we share with you eight ideas for a perfect holiday in France.

Provence: sea, mountains and lavender fields

The South of France is an excellent choice for a holiday, so let’s stay there for a while! On the coast, the Provençal coast is largely made up of the French Riviera, so you’ll be spoilt for choice if you want to splash your feet in the water. But Provence also extends inland, and allows a nature holiday in unspoilt landscapes.

This video can explain it more:

Provence is primarily the lavender region. To admire these stretches of purple fields up to the horizon, the ideal is to leave in June or July. Do not hesitate to contact the local tourist offices to determine the best dates. As far as the precise destinations are concerned, you are spoilt for choice: the Drome Provençale Crest, half an hour from Valencia TGV and the Verdon with its plateau of Valensole, 20 minutes from the station of Manosque are two of the most flowering regions.

Annecy: lakes, mountains, nature

A popular destination for winter sports, Annecy also unveils an enchanting setting for summer holidays. The Venice of the Alps offers beautiful walks in its historic center and its cobbled streets that run along the canals of the city. Also enjoy the terraces for a drink or lunch.

Annecy in the summer is an opportunity to enjoy the fresh air of the mountain. Lake Annecy – one of the most beautiful lakes in France – is an ideal playground for all water activities: swimming, sunbathing, cruising, diving, fishing, etc. For the sportier, opt for hikes in the mountains that will offer you an unstoppable view of the size of the lake or, go on an adventure by cannoning in the canyons of Angon or Montmin.  How to get to Annecy? Departing from Paris Gare de Lyon, you can reach the city of Annecy in just 4 hours by taking a seat in one of the INOUI TGV trains.
